ABOUT THE SHOWS

There are all these big fellas making monuments to themselves and its all a bit like Narcissus, and the reflection on that is not so inclusive but hey that’s life in a big city although you know there are many more meaningful monuments around and within and in this project they take the form of the Amplified Elephants, Noise Scavengers and BOLT Ensemble gathering together to celebrate that most stunning of rituals that happens 24/7 all round the world – a sleepless ritual in a sense – a ritual that can be summarized simply as collective listening. Maybe you thought enlightenment wasn’t real and then you remembered about communities gathering for collective listening and poof the whole caper changed. This is interabilities sonic art as ceremony and a passage of rite.

So here’s the biz: there are three outdoor sonic art style concerts at the Footscray Community Arts Centre, catching sunset, dusk and the bright mid day sun all falling back on to one of the most stunning views that the fine city of Melbourne can cough up.

Friday 5 November

EXTINCTION: 7:30pm

BOLT String Quintet including: Andrea Keeble (violin), Lizzy Welsh (violin), Jason Bunn (viola), Caerwen Martin (cello), Anita Hustas (double bass).

Post Avian Threnody. A city with no birds. Sonically articulated. Syncing with the setting sun. City skyline.

MACHINATIONS:  8:30pm

Artists: Amplified Elephants.

Noise Music. Famous Public Speeches all mashed up. The city skyline at night.

Saturday 6 November

MONUMENTS: 2 – 5pm

Artists: Amplified Elephants, Noise Scavengers, BOLT Ensemble and special guest PHILIP BROPHY.

The work titled MONUMENTS is the main event here (Amplified Elephants, Noise Scavengers and BOLT), but the mojo is shared by the delivery of solo sonic moments featuring Aussie media arts legend, Philip Brophy, and that great man who gets paid to hit stuff - Peter Neville.

Sunday 7 November

MONO: 4pm – 8pm

Synthesizer drone music. Four-hour show. Day falling into sunset. Ambient. Blisssssssssss
